Ready, Set.....

The blood tests I had 4 weeks ago came back and they were all normal - no cholesterol, no diabetes, no thyroid problems but my bp was still 150/100 at the second visit. DH has been back at work for just over a week and I'm tempted to make a doctor's appointment just to have my bp read again, now he's not underfoot all the time, but a friend told me that some chemist's do this for free so I might phone around and find out before my shopping trip next week.

I'm going visiting for 2 weeks over Christmas/New Year so I've been  readying the vegetable garden for my abscence. Of course I always find "one more thing" that needs doing so 20 minutes watering becomes 2 hours gardening by the time I've weeded, done some more mulching, squished some grubs and maybe turned the compost or added another layer of stable bedding, leaves etc to the new bed I'm creating. I'm not sure this qualifies as fat burning but it is making muscles and apparently you can't burn fat effectively without having muscles to exercise and the raking and shovelling is definitely aerobic exercise depending on what pace you choose to perforn it at :). The doctor did say aerobic exercise in any form will lower my blood pressure as well as weight loss.

I think I'll need some more summer clothes before I'm set to go away as most of mine are ok for pottering around home but a little too loved to pieces to be seen in public.

You know those vague weeks you have? I was sure my Doctor's appointment was Wednesday so after I did my usual morning jobs on Tuesday I checked the diary to make sure of the time, only to discover the 30th was that day! I missed the appointment! I rang and made my apologies and rescheduled and then wrote the time/date on the wall calendar in the kitchen. It hangs near the fridge so I will be reminded every day about my next appointment.

I've only lost another 0.5 kg but I've lost a centimetre or 2 off my measurements and I hope to lose a bit more weight/cm in the next 6 days. If I could make it 3kg in 3 weeks by the appointment I think the Doc will let me off on medication as long as the bp is down too.

Nothing like a major fright to focus one's energies on a task!

Breakfast is usually oatmeal with sultanas, sunflower seeds and a piece of fruit - usually an apple but sometimes a banana. Lunch is about 2-3 cups of salad - lettuce, celery, carrot, tomato, shallots, sometimes broccoli, sometimes corn, cheese if I have parmesan or feta - accompanied by tuna, sardines or cold meat and whatever dressing I decide to make. The current favourite is dijon mustard and red wine vinegar though I still like the old olive oil/lemon juice/garlic mix for a change. Tea/Dinner is mostly red meat and steamed vegetables though I've been doing pizzas on lebanese bread, chicken stir fries and vegetable soups and we had spaghetti bolognaise for 2 nights. I can only get away with this because I don't have butter/margarine spread on anything and don't normally eat bread unless it's a wrap or a pizza base.

Low fat/low carb works for me and I can treat myself to a slice of cake for morning or afternoon tea. I don't normally eat dessert either as sugary foods make me feel bloated before bed, though I am partial to a cheese, nut and fruit plate which I try to keep limited to once or twice a week due to the fat/oil content in the cheese and nuts even when the cheese is low fat.

Off to exercise by digging/planting in the garden and then a short walk with the dogs to stretch out all the muscles afterwards.

Sky HIgh?

Well, it's been one day off 8 months since I last blogged and about a week away from when I last updated my measurements in the side bar. My weight see-sawed up and down over Winter but had settled at 70kg when I went to visit the doctor last week for a check up.

You know the suspense music the dah-dah-dah-DAAAAHH stuff?

Now's the time to cue that as the doc wants to see me again in 2 weeks for another blood pressure check as it's 140/100. BUGGER :( !
Six months ago it was still 120/80 which it's been around for most of my adult life except when I was pregnant.

I really like the doc's scales as they record me at 70kg - about 3kg lighter than mine as it only weighs in 1/2kg increments so a few grams kicks it into the next range - but as I think I've mentioned before that's either the magnetic ridge the house is on or we must have different air up here as I'm 3kg lighter in town too. The doc's scales have to be accurate too. I'll use the weight my scale reads as weight loss/gain is still the same, whatever the starting point. I'll consider any lower deviations a bonus :D.

Doc's orders are more exercise, less fatty/starchy food (as I already eat lots of veg and fruit) and he's going to do another weigh in and also blood tests to discount thyroid, diabetes etc that are in my family.  I hate blood tests but thankfully it's in the early morning and I'll need to have water intake only so I won't be stressing about it all day. Must remember to drink lots of water or my stupid veins collapse. I haven't done too badly so far as I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 71.5kg but I think I was closer to 72.5 than 73 on Wednesday so I've probably only lost a kilo but I feel really good about that.

Mind you, we both agree that it's probably the saddlebags I've acquired that have handicapped my health! I don't need to be fit enough to win the Melbourne Cup but climbing the hill to bring the dairy cow in without being breathless and having my heart racing would be an improvement. Geez, I used to chase the kids up that hill when we swam in the dam!

I think more of this

and much less of this

are definitely in order.

New Word Verification - bah!

Thanks to The Run*A*Round Ranch for use of this image and also thanks to The Crafter'sApprentice for the post that helped me locate it.

I haven't been on blogger for about 5 days and then I'm faced with having to decipher gobbledegook - two lots of it - when I do leave comments on some blogs! I use satellite broadband because that is all I can have in rural Australia, apart from dial-up - which translates to 'useless' here, so it is quite expensive and also regulated by weather changes as extensive cloud cover or electrical storms can render it inoperable. Therefore my online time has limits to it that I don't like to waste. I didn't mind word verification previously and I can understand bloggers not wanting spam and not wanting to moderate their blogs but this latest stunt by Blogger is ridiculous. I'm joining the above blogs in the protest against the new word verification as I can't always decipher them and it wastes my time and my patience.
Please join us by removing Word Verification from your blog.

From blogger DASHBOARD click on SETTINGS, then click on COMMENTS and scroll down almost to the bottom of the page where you will find Show word verification for comments? Select the No option.
If you are concerned about spam then select one of the Comment Moderation options in the section above the word verification section. I did.
Alternatively you can select Registered Users option at the top of the COMMENTS page beside the WHO CAN COMMENT?

Either or both should protect you from spam or unwanted anonymous comments.

I’ve managed to stay at 68kg even though I’ve consumed quite a few of these lately. I’m sure that eating home made foods and cutting out the preservatives that are in most processed food helps one to lose weight, even if you are eating ‘restricted’ foods like the above!

Homemade Nutrition

I made these last night so I know there's no unwanted 'extras' in them :D!
I won't show the Apple Tea Cake I made that I ate 2 pieces of *blush*

False Positives

or Negatives?

Did my weigh in this morning after the cleansing yesterday and the scale said 68kg! Think I may need to replace the battery. I couldn't possibly have lost a kilo in one day, though the dogs and I did take a fairly long leisurely walk yesterday and enjoyed the views.

Still Stagnating .....

.... in more than one way.
Lol, the rain stopped briefly last week and I went for a walk along the road but a shortcut I took had the problem of hosting some 'farmer's friends' which really enjoyed hitching a ride on my flannelette shirt!

There's squishy ground everywhere and althought we had a starry night the clouds are back with a vengeance today. I'm still stuck with this kilo I put back on over Christmas and if I eat any less I may as well not bother getting out of bed. Unfortunately I'm one of those who needs to exercise to lose weight as dieting alone doesn't work because my digestive system just becomes more effective and I only have to breathe the aromas of food to gain weight  :(.
I've started making my own bread again and find it's more filling than purchased bread and of course it tastes better and keeps longer. I hand kneaded the last lot and my fingers and hands protested about it later so I'll hunt out the bread hook attachment for the mixer this time and just do the final kneading by hand. The long hand kneading did make lighter, fluffier bread though than I've ever made before and I think the exercise worked out some arthritis kinks I have nad with all this damp weather :). Guess you have to take the bad with the good, hey?
I'm having a cleansing day today so I'll be drinking lots of water and only eating fruit or raw veg as I think all this sitting around is depositing toxins in my joints because my knees and ankles are having twinges if I sit for too long and even my elbows popped yesterday after an extended period at the computer :O!
Hoping the weather is not being too hard on every one else's health programs.

Giveaway Closed

Cathy of Craftee CC has put up her hand to give the "Symply too good to be True" recipe books I offered in October last year a new home so they are in the mail.
Hope you enjoy them :).

Lol, daughter has left to go to her home, it's been hot and humid here the last couple of days and I don't have any shopping money till Thursday.
The positive thing over the last few days is that I'm 68kg  now (I have no idea how I lost half a kilo) and after Thursday I'll have a kitchen full of healthy things to eat to lose that and continue losing the rest.
I'm a bit slack with checking other's blogs lately so I hope you are still on track, or close to it.
